Sigulda's top landmarks

Cable Car

The idea of the Sigulda cable car came from a local man, Aivars Janelsītis. At a time when the bridge over the Gauja had not yet been rebuilt after the war, he found himself one evening on the left bank of the river, on the Sigulda side. Looking across the water towards Krimulda, Aivars thought how wonderful it would be to fly over the Gauja like a bird, so that he could reach his beloved Genoveva sooner – she worked as a nurse at the Krimulda sanatorium.

A word from the designer.

I am Megija Baumane – a creative soul, designer, painter and product maker. I have always been fascinated by the chance to turn ideas into something tangible, beautiful and special.

In my work I bring together art, design and feeling, creating products with character and a story. Details, colours and shapes matter to me – and so does how a person feels when they see or use what I have made.

I believe that beautiful things can do more than please the eye: they can create emotions, memories and inspiration. Every piece I make is a small part of my creative world.
